Every busy weighbridge has the same daily scene. The truck is on the deck, the number comes up, the driver leans out and says it's wrong. Maybe the slip got smudged. Maybe it got "lost." Maybe nobody quite trusts the operator. Ten minutes go, the queue backs up, and tempers fray — over a number that was right all along.
There's a feature that quietly ends that scene, and it's one of the cheapest things on the indicator: GSM auto-SMS.
The argument at the gate
Almost every weighbridge dispute comes down to one of three things: a paper slip that can be altered or misplaced, an operator nobody fully trusts, or a buyer and seller who simply weren't both looking at the screen at the same instant. The weight itself is rarely the problem. The record of it is.
How auto-SMS works
A SIM sits in the indicator. When a weighment completes, the indicator immediately sends a text to a pre-set list of numbers. No app to install, no internet, no smartphone required — it works on the oldest handset at the remotest mine gate, anywhere there's a basic mobile signal.
A typical message carries everything that matters:
PRIME WEIGHBRIDGE · Ticket 4471 · 28,480 kg · 14:06 · 13-06-2026
Buyer, seller and head office all receive the same text within seconds of the truck settling on the deck.
Why it ends disputes
- The number is shared instantly. Three parties hold the same figure with a timestamp before the truck pulls off — there's no later version to dispute.
- The slip stops being the single source of truth. Lose the paper and the SMS still stands.
- It removes the operator from the argument. The machine sent the text, not a person — so nobody's honesty is on the line.
- Head office sees every load in real time. No waiting for the evening register; the day's weighments arrive as they happen.
Where it fits — and what to spec
If your gate runs more than a handful of trucks a day, or you've ever had a load "re-weighed" into a different number down the road, this feature pays for itself in goodwill and time within a month. When you specify an indicator, ask for:
| GSM module + SIM slot | Built in, not a bolt-on dongle |
| Multi-number SMS list | Buyer, seller and office on every ticket |
| Auto-send on weighment | No operator action required |
| Printout + SMS together | Belt and braces for trade slips |
Most of our weighbridge indicators support GSM ticketing out of the box, and we can retrofit it to many existing scales. See the indicator range or ask us if your current scale can take it.
